Flexibility and robust performance should be farmers’ key criteria in choosing herbicides for spring cereals, says leading manufacturer, Dow AgroSciences.

The company’s herbicide portfolio provides two key options; Spitfire® (fluroxypyr and florasulam) and Galaxy® (fluroxypyr, florasulam and clopyralid) this spring.

Stuart Jackson, Dow AgroSciences herbicide specialist said, “Both Spitfire® and Galaxy® will control the spectrum of weeds that are prevalent at this time of year in spring cereal crops. In addition, both products are incredibly flexible – which is so important this year. They can be used on all spring sown cereal crops and are compatible with a range of herbicides and fungicides, enabling a wide choice of mix partners and reduces the number of passes that have to be made.”

“The unique chemistry of these products will provide robust performance, regardless of fluctuating temperatures that are occurring this year.”

What’s more, both products offer multiple modes of action. This makes them ideal products where ALS resistance exists in weeds such as poppy, mayweed and chickweed.

Spitfire® can be used effectively up to GS39, while Galaxy® can be applied from GS13 up to GS32 in spring wheat and barley. Neither product requires any specific cultivation post-harvest, they both allow rotational flexibility.
