Farmers making the transition to regenerative agriculture have the opportunity to access additional revenue, by signing up to a specialist programme.

The scheme, developed by Agreena, is based on simplifying the process of selling carbon certificates, and according to Thomas Gent, there’s still time to apply for harvest 2023.

“Farmers who are already deploying regenerative farming practices and turning soil into carbon sinks, are able to access a revenue stream from carbon farming and the sale of carbon certificates,” he says.

“Simply send a copy of your completed BPS form to Agreena, and one of our team will estimate the potential revenue achievable from the sale of carbon certificates following harvest 2023.”

Simple sign-up

AgreenaCarbon is the company’s specialist soil carbon programme and is open for enrolment until 30 June. “Enrolment consists of choosing which fields are to be included in the AgreenaCarbon programme and entering the relevant field data such as field location, size, fertiliser and cover crop usage,” says Thomas.

“After harvest, farmers log into the AgreenaCarbon platform and report their actual field data around the date they have provided.”

Additional income

Once the carbon certificates are issued, farmers can choose to keep them, sell, or alternatively ask Agreena to sell them to verified companies on their behalf based on current market demand and prices.

With BPS being phased out, uncertainty around ELM schemes, rising energy costs plus an unsettled economic climate, Thomas says this could prove an opportunity to drive up the bottom line.
