Congratulations to Stuart Woods from Kent who responded to the CPM/Certis survey on slug control and has won a fabulous prize of enough SluxxHP to treat 8ha.

Stuart responded to the survey and completed the tie-breaker question on his top tip for slug control. But what impressed the judges is that, rather than just offer one solution, he gave several – a true integrated approach. “Try various cultural controls, such as cultivating to disturb eggs, and monitoring slug pressure, keeping previous cropping in mind. Keep operators trained up with the use of pesticides and informed on stewardship requirements. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and don’t apply if heavy rain is due. Fill up in fields to limit spillages in water sensitive areas. Calibrate and maintain equipment,” was his response.

The aim of the survey was to get an insight into the current IPM on-farm practices for controlling slugs. To take part in the next survey, make sure we have the correct details for you by emailing angus@cpm-magazine.co.uk
