Koban, a selective herbicide containing pethoxamid has been formally approved for GB use by the Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD).
Marketed by FMC, pethoxamid is the company’s third new herbicide active ingredient to be introduced to the GB market, following the launch of Fundatis herbicide in 2025 which contains bixlozone and beflubutamid.
Primarily used as a partner in residual herbicide mixtures, pethoxamid belongs to HRAC Group 15 which includes familiar active ingredients such as flufenacet and metazachlor, which are widely used across arable cropping systems.
Pethoxamid demonstrates activity across a range of both grassweed and broadleaf weed species, with reliable residual activity. While the initial approval of pethoxamid through Koban is focused on oilseed rape, the active ingredient’s broad crop safety profile opens the door to wider use in the future including within cereal crops, where it’s shown promising performance alongside Fundatis herbicide.
UK and IE marketing lead Geoffrey Bastard says this approval demonstrates the depth and opportunities in FMC’s product pipeline across multiple crop sectors. “It highlights our commitment to providing innovative solutions to farmers to tackle key weed challenges on-farm.”
